I’ve never done a “staycation” but after a hectic winter working, breaking-up and buying a house, I deemed that Spring Break this year should be at home; and I wasn’t going to let the snow or familiar surroundings break my spirits – or prevent me from experimenting with them.
During the past week, while casually checking emails, packing and taking in “Days of Our Lives”, I have conjured up a few recipes that are seriously sweet enough to welcome in Spring – even if there is a fresh coat of snow on the ground.
1 jigger of vodka
3 oz. cranberry apple juice (Wegmans)
1 tsp. raw honey
Maraschino cherry for garnish
For a sweet and tangy jumpstart to a lazy day in the city or a laid back start at the country house, try a modified margarita.
1/2 jigger Cointreau
1/2 jigger Triple Sec or Tequila
4 oz. orange juice (some pulp)
Juice from 1/2 lime
Garnish with an orange slice
Still on the go this Spring Break “staycation”? Then Go Cocktails! may be for you (and I’m not advocating a roadie here). Go Cocktails! are sugar free mixers sold on Amazon.com and easy to use. There are four different options (Margarita, Lemon Drop, Cosmo and Appletini) and every box comes with eight packets. The Coconut Cosmo (just add vodka and water) is the perfect cocktail to usher in the warm weather – or just pretend it’s here.
